Our Story

Mutani’s Pocket is an online marketplace that sells unique, limited-edition crafts from East Africa.

We give visibility to products created by artisans in micro supply chains in East   Africa. Our platform showcases their talents and thus, highlights “traditional”  yet "modern" East African fashion and art.

The genesis stems from realizing that as the world becomes more connected, there is an emerging interest in African cultures. While some interests are generated by simple curiosity, some are resonated from individual past experience.

OUR ORIGIN

Mutani is wordplay on the Swahili word “Mtaani” which means “street”.

Mutani’s Pocket translates to “street pocket” because we aim to work with mostly street vendors from different pockets of East Africa and bring their products to the U.S. market.
